Gli Ultimi Giorni di Garibaldi is a symphonic poem by Alessandro Meacci (1997), commissioned by the Fondazione Haydn Stiftung of Bolzano and Trento and premiered by the Haydn Orchestra, conducted by Alessandro Bonato. The work focuses on the final period of Giuseppe Garibaldi’s life, during his retreat on the island of Caprera, far from the epic dimension of battle and instead immersed in an intimate and reflective space. The music moves through memory, disillusionment, ideals, and fragility, offering a human and political portrait of the Hero of the Two Worlds, suspended between myth and solitude.
