Athearn's SDP40F (Amtrak Phase III)

This past Thursday, my preorder of one of Athearn's Amtrak Phase III SDP40Fs came in at my local hobby store The Train Station in Columbus, Ohio. Even though I've done reviews on the previous models in December 2017 (   • A Look At Athearn's SDP40F  ) and June 2018 (   • Athearn's SDP40F (Second Release)  ), I wanted to show how Athearn is again releasing models with accurate details like on the prototype locomotives. After comparing the models, I coupled all three together for some laps around the layout with a long 21-car passenger train. While the real SDP40Fs were retired or sold by the early 1980s, in my world, they didn't have the derailment problems like the prototypes and continued on, working alongside the F40PHs into the 1990s, which is why on my layout it is normal for them to be running with Amfleet and MHC cars.
