Engineer Peak is just north of Durango Colorado. In the summer time it is very popular and crowded. It is pretty straight forward with one exception. The trail will lead you up to a chimney. Right at the entrance to this chimney we went out on the face to left when looking into it. It is easy scrambling but very exposed. A slip here would end badly. We carried a rope that was one hundred feet in length to use as a hand line. Like all hikes in the summer in the mountains it is really important to watch the weather. An early start is the best advice. In the afternoon when the thunderstorms start developing this is not the place to be. All in all we found it to be an easy climb, mostly steep talus with an obvious trail. I would say it is a little strenuous due to the unrelenting steep nature of the route. Check the weather and be prepared for anything, especially if it is crowded.
