This is my first original tag: a self-indulgent tag to celebrate my 40th birthday! All the prompts are inspired by my favourite bands and musicians… some of whom are quite esoteric, but you don't have to be a fan of the music to participate in the tag. All the actual questions are bookish — they just happen to be inspired by my favourite artists. There's no prompt to tag others, but if you make a response video I encourage you to do so. I'll be tagging lots of my favourite channels. There's no pressure to join in — please just consider my tags a list of recommendations. I spend the first half of this video discussing the artists and explaining how they inspired the prompts (if it's not self-evident). Then in the second half I share my own answers to the prompts. The prompts: 1. Cardiacs: A book close to your heart, or a book with flowers on the cover. (Bonus points for daisies.) 2. XTC: A book that brings you joy, or a book written/set near where you live. 3. Thelonious Monk: A character with a brilliant name or a distinctive hat. 4. Robert Wyatt: A character who experiences a sea change or hits rock bottom. 5. Ivor Cutler: A favourite poetry book or poem (bonus points if you read a poem), or a favourite Scottish book. 6. The Bad Plus: A book that is a retelling of an older story, or a book with a mathematical term or number in the title. 7. Shudder to Think: A book that scared you, or a thought-provoking book. 8. Björk: A book by a Nordic author, or with an icy or wintry setting. 9. The Kinks / Gentle Giant / Devo / Field Music: A book about siblings or written by siblings. 10. The Beatles: A book that a parent or relative introduced you to, or a book you've loved a long, long, long time. 11. Spinal Tap: (These prompts go up to eleven.) Recommend a favourite song, album or artist.
