Join Lisa Foster and Ely Bordt for a climb up the Cables Route on the North Face of Longs Peak in January. Longs Peak is one of the premier destinations in Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). From the Longs Peak Trailhead the hike follows the East Longs Peak Trail for six miles to the Boulderfield, then ascends to the base of a technical rock step that guards the upper mountain. The duo used a rope to protect this section, utilizing the metal eyebolts left over from the era when the National Park Service maintained a metal cable to assist climbers in ascending. The Cables were removed in 1973 and the route was restored to its original difficulty, with the remaining eyebolts serving as protection points. From the top of the technical section, the pair unroped and negotiated the upper slopes to gain the summit. With spectacular views and good weather, Foster and Bordt made a successful summit, logging around 20 ascents for Bordt and 278 for Foster. Foster has climbed the mountain every month of the year for over 6 years and continues to share her love of this special place with climbing partners and YouTube enthusiasts alike. Enjoy the climb!
