Jose "Pitong" Ledesma - Tanda de Valse (c1910s) unknown performers 0:00 Introduction 1:06 1st Waltz 3:03 2nd Waltz 5:34 Coda ------------------ The Tanda de Valse was a popular genre of salon music in the Philippines at the beginning of the 20th century. It was modeled after Spanish and Viennese styles of Waltzes, particularly that of Johann Strauss II. Many Filipino composers such as Jose Estella (the "King" of Filipino Waltz,) Juan Hernandez, and Teodoro Araullo created dozens of Tanda de Valses either dedicated to an institution, or to a lady. Tanda de Valses fell out of favor around the late 1910s-1920s due to the rise of Jazz-styled music brought upon by the American Occupation. The Tanda de Valse was the work of the pianist, conductor and philanthropist Jose "Pitong" Ledesma from Silay, Negros Occidental. It was probably composed around the decade 1910, when the style was still popular all around the country. However, Ledesma's work is unique since it withstood the test of time in his hometown of Silay, where people still dance the waltz to his music today. ------------------ Recording: • Daigon 2018 - Tanda de Valse Photo: / 10158077382857353 ------------------ My blog on Philippine Music: https://vesteel.blogspot.com/ Support my channel: https://ko-fi.com/imwaldevesteel
