Writer-director Zach Cregger carved a massive space for himself in the industry with his critically acclaimed 2022 horror Barbarian. Armed with a modest budget, an unexpected story, and a sparse but talented cast, Cregger took audiences by surprise with a twisted feature that topped everyone's list that year. At long last, he's back with Weapons, another mysterious original horror — emphasis on original — starring Julia Garner and Josh Brolin. In the movie, Garner plays Justine Gandy, a school teacher whose entire class of students, all but one, have mysteriously gone missing. The town is perplexed when each of the students vanish in the middle of the night, caught on cameras as they sprint down the street at the same early hour of the morning. With the one common denominator being Justine, the town casts their suspicions on her, blaming her for the eerie disappearances. Weapons also stars Benedict Wong, Austin Abrams, and Cary Christopher. In this interview, Collider's Steve Weintraub sits down with Cregger to discuss the big swings Weapons takes, how the horror genre and smaller budgets allow for more creative freedoms, and his filmmaking process, from pre-production storyboarding to the post-production edits. He also teases where he's at with his Resident Evil reboot. #weaponsmovie #zachcregger #juliagarner #joshbrolin #barbarian For interviews, movie reviews, and more visit https://collider.com FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL / collider / collider / collider
