Dr. Steve Baldner is a professor of Philosophy at St. Francis Xavier University, His academic training is in mediaeval philosophy, and his research is in 13th century philosophy, especially in the thought of Thomas Aquinas and his teacher, Albertus Magnus. For four years Dr. Balnder served as Dean of Arts at St. F.X. (2006-2010), and he is currently on sabbatical leave at the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies in Toronto. Dr. Balnder's talk describes a program he started called "Classics for Classics," an annual summer course he runs for alumni on the topic of philosophy. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
