Retrodelic Session, Phantasm Records Series Volume 8. 8th January 2015. Mindfield was formed around 1992 in London when musicians John Ford & Simon Carman joined together with DJ’s Mark Allen and Chrisbo to produce music for the Goa trance parties that were beginning to spring up around London and the major cities of Europe. Mark and Chris had been travelling in India in the early ’90’s and started the seminal underground Pagan parties in London – which preceded the legendary Return To The Source parties that really opened up the scene to a wider audience with resident DJ’s Mark Allen and the legendary Tsuyoshi. Mindfield became practically the house band at RTTS, playing at many of their parties in London and Europe alongside the scenes biggest names such as Hallucinogen,Doof, Juno Reactor and The Man With No Name. Mark Allen went on to become one of the biggest name DJ’s in Goa trance as well as forming Quirk with Tim Healy, while Chrisbo joined Medicine Drum with Chris Dekker, another RTTS veteran. John and Simon continued as Mindfield, releasing a string of trancefloor classics on their own Phantasm record label until Simon’s tragic death from cancer in 1997. John released a double CD of Mindfield material in 2000 and continues to this day to produce music as Mindfield and a number of other projects.
