Tonight we take a trip back to childhood as we explore the most breathtakingly colorful; the most aesthetically stunning; most astonishingly retro mall in the Susquehanna Valley! Let’s hear it for everyone’s favorite 80s/90s retail time capsule and architectural masterpiece, the fabulous York Galleria!!! When I was a kid, the way I felt about going to York Galleria was the way most kids felt about going to Disney World! Even though we lived closer to Park City Center, it was always a super fun novelty to go across the river to visit this steel and glass wonderland decorated with colorful accents everywhere. The epic skylights, the scenic elevator house with the purple vertical tunnel, the center court with the giant gazebo-style rotunda, and the cartoony mandala logo more than made up for the smaller size of this mall compared to Park City. Even though we’re all saddened by the recent renovation of this mall’s Boscov’s, the rest of the mall is still rocking its old-school charm! In this video, I capture all the bright happy aesthetics of this mall as they desperately try to keep up the cheerful mood in this otherwise depressing nostalgia chamber. It’s still got Boscov’s, Marshalls, H&M, and a few other small shops keeping it alive, and there are still half a dozen food vendors open, including some local independent restaurants in the food court. And if you’re missing the mirrored ceilings of the old Boscov’s, I’m happy to say that the food court skylights become an epic reflection show when the sun goes down!
