Pop quiz - Which player is the CPU player? Admittedly I haven't worked on this for quite some time, been too busy with other projects, but it's my birthday today, and I felt like celebrating! This is for S3K Battle Race, I felt the original blue spheres challenge was un-optimal for our needs, so I wrote a brand new one from scratch, not to brag, but I think I did a better job than Sonic Team themselves here, there's a particular stage where the game heavily lags when you collect a large amount of spheres in a particular way, it seems to struggle trying to find out where to make a loop of rings, you can find the video here: • Видео I have implemented this stage into our version, and even with both players collecting the spheres in the same manner, we get only a single frame of lag! Score one us~ Regarding the sprites, sorry about that, Sonic and Tails have no graphics currently, I was going to show off some real-time scaling that we had when both players were playing on the same level and appear on the same screen, but without any graphical sprites, it's pointless showing that, VAdaPEGA has offered to make some sprites for the stage, making different facing directions and angles and such, it's quite a big ask so I suspect that's the reason it's taking some time d= Might not be relevant to this video in particular, but Natsumi has been working on cleaning up S3K's driver for the hack, specifically the DPCM, she's rewritten the driver to help it avoid unnecessary Z80 halts by DMA's and so forth. While you can't hear the improvement in this video via that (as the emulator does not emulate this), you can still hear a minor improvement through an improved consistency playback where the bytes are flushed out in a nice and timely manner (at least, better than the original~). Lemmy know what you think, keep in mind, everything is WIP so things might be subject to change, and subtle things will be missing.
