I will show you the easiest way to EQ low frequencies. In order to easily mix your low frequencies properly it's important that you begin by EQing your kick and bass. You can easily mix your low frequencies with just a little EQ and sidechain loving. I'll be showing you specifically how you can use EQ to clean up your low frequency content and make space for your instruments to sit perfectly together. Once you've mixed your low end frequencies with eq you can then apply sidechain compression. We us sidechain compression to move the volume of our bass instrument down whenever the kick hits. When mixing low frequencies properly we use a sidechain compressor. Whenever the kick hits, because its sent to a compressor's sidechain activates sidechain compression. The purpose of EQing and sidechaining your low frequencies is to remove any unwanted frequencies. The most important thing with sub frequencies which instrument will be the main source of sub 100hz and lower energy. There can only be one dominant instrument at 100hz and lower. The non-dominant instrument should be hi passed and cut as aggressively as possible to make room for your dominant sub frequency source. Whether that's your kick or your bass is up to you. By Using a sidechain Compressor to get your bass controlled is one of the most powerful ways to mix your kick and bass. When Bass mixing you first need to set the volume level of your sub bass, which can be achieved through fader positioning, and then further sculpted with an EQ if necessary. Once we EQ our kick and bass the final step is to sidechain. At a more advanced level these two mixing tools are often configured simultaneously for our kick and bass. But if you're just starting to learn how to mix kick and bass, then it's easier to start with just the Volume and EQ. By following the simple mixing techniques in this tutorial, I'm going to show you that with just EQ and Sidechaining you will get the kick and bass sound that you're after.
