I’m sure you’re aware that there are a lot of myths in HIFI. Like everything was better in the old times, and how exquisite pieces the Philips TDA1540 DAC chips are. After a while these things crawl deep inside your mind and you’ll have no chance to wipe them out. This is the reason why a Philips CD player with a TDA DAC chip, preferably from the beginning of the CD era, is on my bucket list. Yes I know, that I’m the one who is always saying to leave vintage gear behind, because they can cause a lot of headache. It’s one thing to buy them, but they’ll most probably need some care as well, which could significantly make them more expensive and in this case a brand new thing could be better. But you know how it goes… This little “bug” is buzzing in your ears, so it’s hard to take your own advice. So, I bought a Philips CD104, which is, well, working at this moment, but it’s not necessarily true at the time this video will be released. However I was curious how good it is while it is working and whether the hype you can read and watch about in many places is valid or not. Its opponents will be my Cambridge Audio Azur 651C and Sony CDP-XE530 CD players. These three players are more or less covering the different eras of CD player manufacturing. So we will figure out in this video whether the enthusiasm for the TDA DAC chips is valid or not… Main title music by: Patrick Patrikios - Know Myself Please support the channel: Patreon: / retrotechhungary PayPal: https://paypal.me/RetroTechHungary Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/rthungary Please like and subscribe.
