JEFFERSON COUNTY- Mt. Vernon authorities have confirmed that early Sunday morning. 26 year old Jimmie Davis died after he was shot in the 1000 block of South 6th Street. Police are looking for 23 year old Robert Lash in connection with the incident. Neighbors say it all started along this street where dozens of people were having a party. Davis known as J-D by many in the community reportedly pushed a man. Minutes later Davis was shot in the neck by someone in the crowd. Friends of Davis say his death has dealt a tragic blow to the community, "It's a big loss, nobody...this is the street we live on, if I want to go somewhere, I've got to walk past this, people won't even come down here no more just so they don't have to see JD, this is all we have left of JD, and that's the bad thing about it." says Leshontra Johnson. Friends say that Davis' funeral is set for Saturday morning at 11 at Pilgrims Rest Funeral Home on 9th street. Authorities are still looking for 23 year old Robert Lash who drives a maroon 1981 Oldsmobile Coupe. Police say after the incident he could have headed towards Carbondale or Centralia. If you have any information of his whereabouts. Please call the Mt. Vernon police department at 242-0215.
