This is one of the last three non-Japanese uncleared levels in all of Mario Maker 1 as of me clearing this. It's also one of three SMB1 levels and one of two Spain levels, zun levels, hacked world record levels, water levels, as well as the final water level of 2020. It is also my only clear towards team 0%'s grind to beat all SMM1 levels before Wii U servers shut down on April 8th. People have been scared of this level for months I think and a lot of people have tried to figure out the last swim, which is pixel perfect. The intended method is to just swim into the gap from the left, but I could never get that after hours of trying here and there. There were a lot of strats thrown around by Thabeast, ev_brak, Sunny, and somebro to make this somewhat consistent. I gravitated towards somebro's version, which boils down to a pixel perfect lineup as close to the left spike as possible, and then double tap swim and hold right. The second swim has to be an exact number of frames after the first swim and the right press has to be frame perfect too. This is an incredibly hard trick still, but it's consistent. I eventually was able to do this twice in a row pretty consistently and I got 3 in a row quite a few times. I'd first heard of this level after Riley dm'd me with a screenshot of it asking me to play it almost a month ago. It didn't interest me because the beginning was annoying and I couldn't get the last trick. He and Warspy would occasionally bug me to play this over the next few weeks, and I got an itch to play it after my Leap Day level. This was around when somebro shared his strat. It was really different and I wanted to try it, so I began streaming the level on Sunday of this week. With all of the lore and reputation done, I forgot that I can also talk about the level itself :) It's hard. The level is hard. The first room isn't the worst but it's still pretty tough to get used to. The second room is pretty hard but becomes very consistent. The hardest parts to me were where there were spike ceilings. The first swim and the ones over that bottom saw are the biggest run killers here. For some reason your hitbox is taller underwater, so the spikes are a lot stricter than usual. The boo ring swim in the third room is quite hard, and then the nai comes after it. Very stacked ending. In the end, this took me 26 hours, standing by far as my hardest SMM1 clear. This is probably gonna be my only clear for team 0%, but I'm glad I was able to squeeze into the last 60 levels. Oh yeah, as of writing this, there are 53 uncleared levels remaining. The pace has been unbelievable. I'm a firm believer of team 0%'s success. I've done my part, so good luck everybody!
