Most runners chasing a Boston Qualifier are closer than they think but keep falling short for the same reasons. If you’ve ever crossed the finish line just minutes off your BQ and wondered what you’re missing, it’s likely one of these mistakes. There has been a lot of focus in the running community on workouts, splits, and race day tactics, but in reality, most missed Boston Qualifiers come down to a few fundamental errors. In this video, I break down the four biggest mistakes I’ve seen after coaching over 150 athletes to their Boston Qualifier, and why these issues—not talent—are what typically hold runners back. We cover why most runners simply aren’t building enough weekly volume, how running easy days too fast quietly sabotages your progress, why poor pacing ruins otherwise strong races, and how underfueling is one of the most common (and fixable) reasons runners hit the wall.
