SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Monday, March 16, 2026 — Santa Monica police have arrested an 18-year-old suspect following a shooting Sunday night on the Santa Monica Pier that authorities say occurred after a large fight involving multiple individuals. According to the Santa Monica Police Department, officers responded at approximately 9:00 p.m. on March 15 to reports of gunfire on the pier. During the incident, one individual sustained a gunshot wound to the arm. Officers on patrol at the pier responded quickly and provided initial medical aid before paramedics arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Police said a second individual suffered a graze wound and also sought medical treatment at a hospital. Detectives later determined that the second injured individual was the suspected shooter. Authorities identified the suspect as Jaysawn Williams, 18, of Rialto. After receiving medical treatment, Williams was taken into custody and transported to the Santa Monica Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of assault with a firearm (California Penal Code §245(a)(2)) and grossly negligent discharge of a firearm (PC §246.3(a)). Investigators said the department’s regular patrol presence on the pier allowed officers to respond rapidly to the incident. The Santa Monica Pier has since reopened and normal operations have resumed, according to police.
