https://www.buymeacoffee.com/TJH3113 RIP Laura Branigan who passed away on this date in 2004 at the age of 52. Laura was born and raised in the village of Brewster, NY which is only about 35 minutes from where I live. She had a great set of pipes. This was the song I’d originally planned on uploading this weekend but Gene Simmons’ birthday caught me off guard. Lucky you...haha. This might have been her biggest hit and was actually a cover of a song by an Italian singer, Umberto Tozzi, although the lyrics were reworked by Branigan. “Gloria” by Laura Branigan off of her album “Branigan” which came out in 1982 and featured either Leland Sklar or Bob Glaub on bass. You can’t go wrong with either one, can you? I don’t recall what inspired me to learn this song, but I’m thinking it might have been the pre-chorus. I really like that part of the song. The bulk of the song is a fairly straightforward, eighth note, disco, octave line. To keep it interesting, I played the main line a couple of different ways and in a couple of different locations on the neck - using alternating plucking fingers vs one finger playing a fretted A note vs an open A using the 7th fret of the A string vs the 12th fret of the E I'm playing the '76 Guild B-301 with the Babicz 3-point replacement bridge and Zero-Mod Thumb-Rest.
