The needless and brutal murder of #GeorgeFloyd is yet another reminder of our broken system of systemic racism, police brutality and the criminalisation of blackness, across society. When man helplessly says #icantbreathe and is ignored by the very people here to 'serve and protect' this is why there is the need for a Black Lives Matter movement. In dedication to him, and the injustice he faced, this spoken word poetry is written about the deeply harmful police brutality and senseless killing, which needs to be addressed! Peace and love to the family of George Floyd🖤 #BlackLivesMatter Another life lost in America... so maybe there could be a race problem in the united states after i’ve lost count of the deaths, like maybe we won’t still be in denial after seeing another video of sensitive content we can finally admit that this needs to end...until we forget. again. until the next time another name made hashtag, another body splashes across a friend’s insta story a reminder that the death toll is never paused, continually in counting, yet lacking constant coverage, it’s a brutal cycle running on replay, but hey, life goes on until the next shot. and yet it still takes a bloodbath before we can even recognise this racial hate, why is there a required red quota for social change? you cannot measure a struggle by the blood or the suffering or hate that you see if so much goes unseen, so many wait silenced by the raging roar of the united states, but only a body bag will make it to the front page. never the poster boy, never plaster the face of a boy both black and alive the news headlines are more often “black boy shot” than “scholar”. why are there more places for these kids in the prison system and graveyards than in college graduations? why does it take another death for us to start paying attention? why is breaking news always another broken family? why do we still have to mourn those who were killed by the culture of a country who taught from crib to coffin to treat them like second class citizens? like black bodies are only worthy of the spotlight, in the casket, once all that’s left are the rotting white bones underneath.
