On this International HPV Awareness Day, we tackle the truth behind Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and the need for widespread awareness. While many believe it’s a woman’s issue, HPV affects both men and women, and prevention cannot be one-sided. Dr Chibuki Aigbe, Practice Manager at One Wellness Centre, joins us to break down the importance of vaccinating boys and men, dispel myths about sexual health, and explore the cultural barriers preventing people from discussing HPV. An incident in Rivers State has stirred widespread outrage after a young woman, Ogadinma Minnie, accused Honourable Eugene Cheta Epelle, the Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area, of ordering her assault over photos she posted on social media. The photos exposed the dilapidated state of a public school in Odiokwu community, his hometown. Ogadinma claims that the Chairman saw her posts as an embarrassment and allegedly ordered his brother to beat her, leaving her with visible injuries. In contrast, the Chairman denies the allegations, calling them politically motivated and claims that the injuries were accidental during a minor scuffle.
