For many readers, the timeline of the Book of Revelation seems straightforward: Christ returns, a thousand-year millennium begins, and then the new heaven and new earth appear. But what if that assumption is wrong? In this episode we take a closer look at Revelation 20 and the phrase: “From whose face heaven and earth fled away.” The Greek grammar reveals something fascinating. The verb “fled” is in the aorist tense, which may describe an event already seen earlier in Revelation rather than something happening after the millennium. This opens the door to a different way of reading the text: • The cosmic collapse of heaven and earth may occur at the Second Coming • The new creation described in Revelation 21 could begin at the start of the Messianic kingdom • The rebellion of Gog and Magog may connect directly to the prophecy in Book of Ezekiel 38–39 • And the character behind Gog may ultimately be Satan himself We also explore how Revelation may be structured thematically rather than chronologically, with multiple visions describing the same end-of-age events from different perspectives. If that’s true, then Revelation’s timeline may be far more elegant—and surprising—than most readers realize.
