Camacho Diploma Review: Although the Charles-Philippe touched on the blend being composed of Ecuadorian, Dominican and Honduran leaf, the new Special Selection Diploma features only 100% Honduran Corojo! Released only as a 54x50 Robusto, the Diploma is an exclusive cigar from Camacho that is rolled by expert craftsmen in Honduras. [1:12] Build & Dry Draw: With a dark chocolate wrapper and oily sheen, the Diploma hints at a full-bodied and intense smoke. Its build quality feels even throughout giving only a firm springiness and no soft spots. There are no visible veins and the tobacco gives off aromas of dark chocolate, coffee and earthiness. [02:54] Pre-Light Draw: Echoing the initial aromas, the pre-light draw features notes of coca, espresso and earthiness as well as a hint of ammonia. Meanwhile, the draw is very mild but without being too loose. It should tighten up during the smoke. [2:31] 1st Third Aromas: Opening with the same overt notes of coffee and dark chocolate experienced earlier, the Diploma starts as a powerful and sturdy smoke. However, it's far from overbearing and the flavours themselves remain quite mild. When retrohaling, you can pick up some unique zesty notes of lemon or lime. [5:14] 2nd Third Aromas: As the cigar progresses, the chocolate notes momentarily subside to reveal a thick and creamy texture. Meanwhile, the espresso continues to push through creating a latte accord. Interestingly, the Diploma develops a bittersweet retrohale, which is more reminiscent of grapefruit rather than lemon. This new experience pairs quite well with the leathery note that developed near the end of the second third. With a labdanum finish, the effect is quite musky and sweet. [6:44] Final Third Notes: When drawing to the final third, the Diploma's creamy notes fade to allow the dark chocolate to return. Similarly the coffee notes became more overt and were evocative of an intense ristretto shot rather than an espresso. As for the leather, this became more pronounced and musky while a new note of chili pepper began to emerge near the nub. Nevertheless, the cigar never edged too close to peppery for Paul Anthony up until the very end. However, Charles-Philippe did begin to experience a mild build-up of tar as would be expected. [8:53] Pairings & Conclusion: With its strongly gourmet blend of notes, this full-bodied Honduran cigar would be an ideal digestive cigar after an evening meal. Paired with either a coffee and some chocolate or liquor, it would offer a harmonious experience. Whilst an espresso would be ideal, the 2nd third's creaminess suggests that even a latte would go well. As for the spirits, we'd recommend a dark rum or single-malt whisky. Otherwise, the Camacho Diploma was a thoroughly enjoyable cigar with a unique blend and superior construction. With its grandiose presentation and stylish coffins, it would make an ideal gift or a special cigar to enjoy between friends. We hope you liked the review of the Camacho Diploma.
