In Part 2 of our Newfoundland adventure, we board the Marine Atlantic Ferry at North Sydney Nova Scotia to Port aux Basques Newfoundland across the Atlantic Ocean. During this 6 hour crossing we explore the ship’s amenities and enjoy relaxing in our pet friendly cabin. We spend our first night on the Island at a campground only 20 minutes from the ferry before heading north to the Viking Trail and the great Northern Peninsula. Our destination this episode is the UNESCO World Heritage site, L’Ainse aux Meadows, the only known Norse settlement in North America. In true Slow Go Adventure Style, we take our time to explore some interesting nooks and crannies, such as Norris Point, Rocky Harbour and the unique geological formation at Arches Provincial Park. As an avid rug hooker, our Newfoundland adventure is also about discovering yarn shops, craft studios, and hidden corners on the island where wool tells a story. In this episode I visit a fibre art studio where yarn is dyed from flowers and other natural ingredients and I finally see the incredible historic hooked mats at the Grenfell Centre in St. Anthony.
