(Armenian-language video. For the English version, visit • School of Urut, Armenia, Gets New Furniture ). Urut is a historic town in Armenia’s Lori Region. The town’s school is over 150 years old, and a testament to its tradition of excellence is the fact that year after year, most of its graduates go on to continue their education at colleges and universities in Armenia and abroad. Despite such a great legacy, the school has lacked the resources to replace its aging furniture, which has not been updated since the 1980s. In 2016, at the request of the school, the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund completely refurnished the campus. The project was sponsored by the French-Armenian community. “It was a marvelous surprise,” recalls Anush Ohanyan, the school’s principal. As for the students, they were overjoyed by the gift from their French-Armenian compatriots. “True, we got by with what we had, but definitely needed new furniture,” says Eric Dilanyan, president of the student council in 2017, and continues, “Ever since we received the furniture, we’ve been coming to school and studying with much greater enthusiasm.”
