Licola 4WD-min-min_1_1000x6674WD_road-minFrom_the_Bridge_Flat-min_1 Licola is a small and attractive village beside the Macalister River, formerly a timber town from where early cattlemen drove their herds to the nearby high plains and mountains for Summer. Today, the Lions Clubs of Victoria own a large section of land in Licola and operate a wilderness village and youth camp on site, which is immediately surrounded by farm land. The town still generates its own power, pumps and treats its own water and is responsible for waste management. Licola is the only privately owned town in Victoria and the only one in the state not connected to mains power. Area highlights include the spectacular views available from the Pinnacles lookout and tower, the opportunity to visit many high country cattlemen’s huts, the iconic walk into mysterious Lake Tali Karng, the mystery of Wonnangatta Station and spectacular wild flowers in bloom during Spring, perched on Victoria’s rooftop. Licola can be reached from Heyfield (53km) to the south or Jamieson (90km) to the north.
