Rock art is one of the richest cultural resources that depict the earliest expressions of humankind. It is a form of historical record that helps us to understand the development of artistic and cultural traditions and belief systems in various ecological niches in various chronological contexts. Among the many things that our ancestors left behind, nothing is more evocative and exciting than their signatures in the form of rock art on the rock. Present virtual exhibition “The Rock Art of India” exhibiting the regional wise distribution of rock art in India. On the basis of geographical and ecological conditions in India is classified into six divisions’ i.e. northern region, north-eastern region, eastern region, central region, western region, and southern region. This artistic expression helps to understand the palaeo-environments, flora, fauna, and ancient belief system to reconstruct our past. Hope, this exhibition will achieve the objective of enhancing and promoting rock art studies not only among scholars but also among the general public and children at large.
