Who We Are I'm Alan Lefkowitz, founder, and CEO of CFO Strategies. I formed this business in the heart and height of the recession in 2009, which may seem counterintuitive, but we're a firm of senior professionals in the finance and accounting area. And we provide part-time, but permanent accounting and reporting services, as well as controller and bookkeeping services to companies that need those services, but don't necessarily need them full time. Back in the recession when everybody was cutting heads and reducing costs, I saw that there was a real opportunity to start this business. So why did I do that? I started my career and spent what seemed like a lifetime with KPMG. And I was working in the savings and loan practice, cutting my teeth on all kinds of crazy real estate transactions. And ultimately ended up with a major international bank and went overseas and worked in Hong Kong for five years. And ultimately when I got back into the States, I became the CFO of a large construction company. So with my banking and capital markets experience, from my days in public accounting and working in a bank overseas, and then the construction experience here, I saw that I could combine all that experience, but I didn't have the opportunity to really put it together. And when I was working in the construction company, I often got feedback from banks and creditors and accounting firms, insurance brokers, that nobody was doing what I was doing. And I would usually look at them like they had two heads. So what was I doing that nobody was doing. Well, the feedback I got was nobody was doing the kind of reporting and I was doing. And the old adage in the construction industry was if you want to know how we're doing, we'll tell you when we're finished. And so I was doing monthly reporting analysis, forecasting, and even on the project level, weekly job and project reporting. So management could really see how their jobs are doing. And so when the recession hit and I saw that we, our company was going to take significant pay cuts and headcount reduction. I saw the opportunity to start this business. And what happened was my company, the company I worked for as a full-time CFO became my first client. And so we went to three days a week to start, which allowed me to use the other two days to start a business. And then that three days became two and became one day a week. Although it seems like 24/7 because that's how I work. You know, I give my clients full dedication and always accessible to my clients. And so we started the business back in 2009. It was just me providing chief financial officer services. And over time, what we found particularly in the New York tri-state area is that the bulk of the work that the mid-sized clients that we serve really needed was in the controller space. And so we evolved to provide chief financial officer and controller services, and then that evolved further to also supplement that with some bookkeeping services. And so now we have a full staff, providing a wide range of those services to a diverse group of clients, our core clients, you know, we have a significant core group in the construction industry, but we serve a wide range of industries from nonprofits to logistics, to architectural firms and so forth.
