Iceland Winter Road Trip | January 14–22, 2026 Travel Diary After landing in Iceland, we started our journey with a simple breakfast at a local bakery before heading straight to the famous Blue Lagoon to relax after a long flight. From there, we drove south toward Vík and stayed at the beautiful Black Sand Beach Suites. Along the way, we stopped at the stunning Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, one of Iceland’s most iconic sights. That evening, we enjoyed dinner at Black Beach Restaurant — the lamb chops were incredible. This hotel was so special, we truly wished we could stay longer. On our second day, we explored the breathtaking Kötlujökull (Katla) Glacier on a guided glacier tour. Afterward, we returned to the black sand beach to watch a dramatic winter sunset. The night sky was unbelievably clear — we saw countless stars and even the Milky Way, one of the most magical nights of the trip. Day three took us to the massive Vatnajökull Glacier and the famous Diamond Beach, where sparkling ice pieces rest along the shoreline. Later, we drove back to Reykjavík, and that night we were incredibly lucky to see our first Northern Lights at a nearby viewpoint just 15 minutes from our downtown hotel. On day four, we explored Reykjavík and discovered something unique — shellfish caviar for only $10 a jar. Unfortunately, we couldn’t bring any back to the United States, but it was a fun local find. Day five was dedicated to the legendary Golden Circle. We visited Kerið Crater, Skálholt Cathedral, the famous Friðheimar Tomato Greenhouse, and watched the powerful eruptions of Strokkur Geyser. On day six, we visited museums in Reykjavík, did some shopping, and escaped the wet snow and rain by relaxing in a cozy café, sipping hot coffee while watching people walk by outside. that night we went to the Fish Company for dinner and it was worth every penny. Day seven took us north to Grundarfjörður, where we explored a fascinating lava cave. That night, we were blessed with our second Northern Lights sighting, a perfect ending to an adventurous day. On day eight, the day before heading home, we visited the incredible Sky Lagoon. We absolutely loved this experience and spent hours relaxing in the warm geothermal water, reflecting on our unforgettable journey. On our final day, we returned to the same bakery where our adventure began, then headed to the airport. We truly started with a lagoon and ended with a lagoon. This scenic winter road trip through Iceland was unforgettable, a once in a lifetime experience filled with glaciers, waterfalls, hot springs, and magical Northern Lights. #Iceland #travelvlog #wintertravels #northernlights #bluelagoon #skylagoon #GoldenCircle #DiamondBeach #reykjavik
