It was a very positive sign that we got an agreement of a clear path of Ukraine to be part of the EU . It was a very lively debate and I think we can be happy with the result. Today we continue with defence and energy issues. With regards to defence, everybody has agreed that things have changed since 24 February. We should go back to fundamentals, how we cooperate also on European level. To procure common capabilities, for example, that are too expensive for individual states to buy on their own. There should be absolute minimum requirement of 2% defence expenditure of member states' budgets. It is important and not only for the member states bordering Russia, but for the whole EU. We are stronger, if every army is stronger. (Question regarding the accession of Ukraine) In concrete terms it is difficult to say, what it means. There are all the technicalities and legal issues that must be dealt with. The Commission got the assignment to go on with the process. I am happy with the result. It is green light for Ukraine, and we have to give Ukraine hope at these dark times. (Is it a fast-track membership?) It is a clear track for membership. They are not ready to do it fast-track when there is a war going on and people are dealing with these issues. We can all benefit from a more prosperous and more stable and more rule-of-law-based Ukraine. It takes time. Everybody has to take the necessary steps as fast as possible. (Are you going to discuss a new economic rescue package, such as the corona fund. How far are the debates going to go? How far are you prepared to go?) Let’s see. It is the taxpayers’ money. We should not kid ourselves. We should be honest with our people. The times ahead will be tough. There is a war going on in Ukraine. We all will have consequences in our countries. There are support mechanisms to support the most vulnerable people, but we cannot pay for everything.
