Hero Dirt... in Tahoe?! Spring in Downieville Delivers

Hero dirt aka brown pow is something rare here in the Tahoe mountain biking scene. We're more used to moon dust washing out our front wheels. But as springtime brought unsettled weather, I woke up one morning to an inch of snow on my car and that afternoon the B1KER gang, WWMTB, MTBing Adventures, and myself were gifted all-time conditions for a fast and tacky Downieville Downhill ride. Ride Logistics: We rode the classic Downieville Downhill descent. This is normally done using a shuttle. There are a couple shuttle services in the town of Downieville. In our case, we had enough cars to self-shuttle by parking one vehicle in the lot at the end of Durgan Flat Way (free parking here) and driving our bikes to the Sunrise trailhead (39.614594, -120.666677).
