Once again I find myself in a scenario with the Class 150/2 Sprinter. Except this time it's a) in a scenario that I made and b) on a line that is nowhere near Scotland. The previous 150 video was a run from Larbert to Glasgow Queen Street. But this time we'll be driving on a line that's mostly in Devon, with the last two stations being in Cornwall. In other words, we're driving the full length of the Tamar Valley Line from Plymouth to Gunnislake. Our traction for this run is Class 150/2 No. 150238, which is still in First Great Western plain blue (despite the existence of Great Western Railway since 2015). After departing Plymouth at 14:24, we head down the Cornish Mainline before leaving the CML and going onto the Tamar Valley Line at St. Budeaux Junction. It's smooth sailing until we get to Bere Alston. Once there, we have to change ends before heading down the steeply graded and sharply curved branch to Gunnislake. Prior to the late 1960's, most of this route was part of the former LSWR mainline from London to Plymouth. This route ran via Salisbury, Exeter, Okehampton, Tavistock and Bere Alston. The section between Bere Alston and Gunnislake was once part of the Callington branch, which was cut back to terminate at Gunnislake in the 1970's. Today Great Western Railway operate all train services between Plymouth and Gunnislake, and the Class 150/2 is a common sight on the line. The stations served by Tamar Valley trains are as follows: Plymouth Devonport Dockyard Keyham St. Budeaux Victoria Road Bere Ferrers Bere Alston Calstock Gunnislake Although I don't drive on it very often, I always like driving on the Tamar Valley Line. I just like the weird combination of running on a mostly flat and fast section beside the River Tamar (between St. Budeaux and Bere Alston) and crawling along at either 10 or 20 miles per hour between Bere Alston and Gunnislake. The terminus itself is also a challenge, because it's on a 1 in 45 gradient (downhill towards Bere Alston). This means you have to be very precise with the brakes as you arrive at Gunnislake.
