The Enchanting Shadow (1960) Review | IMPRINT FILMS - Shaw Shock Vol 2 | 60's Classic Spooky Tale. Taking a short break from my deep dive into Japanese cinema, I’m heading back into the world of Hong Kong and Taiwanese genre filmmaking with @imprintfilms Shaw‑Shock Vol. 2. This set brings together three atmospheric period ghost dramas—packed with the classic Shaw Brothers blend of spirits, murder, lust, and betrayal—beautifully restored in HD and supported by a generous selection of new extras, including community commentaries and filmmaker discussions. My @imprintfilms collection is still fairly small, mostly because their releases are limited and tend to sell out quickly. So I’m genuinely grateful to Imprint for providing this box set for review and for giving me the chance to explore these films alongside the community. As always, I’ll be honest about the movies themselves, the quality of the extras, and how this set fits into my ongoing journey through Shaw Brothers cinema—especially after recently covering Arrow Video’s Shaw Brothers Vol. 4. For this video, I’m starting with The Enchanted Shadow (1960), making its HD and Blu‑ray debut in its original 4:3 aspect ratio. It’s a fascinating early entry in the spooky‑romance tradition, adapted from Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio. In many ways, it serves as a precursor to what would later become A Chinese Ghost Story—but without the wild, kinetic 80s energy and horror‑comedy chaos. Instead, this version leans into mood, folklore, and classic Shaw Brothers elegance. THANKS FOR WATCHING!!
