This series of videos is divided into two episodes: This episode is EP2: It may be the most comprehensive interpretation of the interior of the WV23 tomb of Ay in the West Valley. You will admire the exquisite Amarna burial chamber murals of the 18th Dynasty and one of the most beautiful sarcophagus of the 18th Dynasty, the Sarcophagus of Ay. I will also share with you the hidden meaning of papyrus. A comparison of the tombs of the two pharaohs Ay and Tutankhamun. Enjoy the view at the end of Monkey Valley! In 1816, Giovanni Belzoni, the adventurer I admire most, first explored this tomb. Although I have no chance to open the seals of the tombs like this great explorer. But as the only visitor today, I was given the privilege of turning the key and unlocking the door to the tomb of Ay. It felt great! After opening the iron gate of the tomb, just walk all the way down to the burial chamber where the sarcophagus is placed. You will pass through two sections of steep stairs and two long and wide corridors. Today, the Antiquities Authority has installed pine floors, fluorescent lights and electric fans for the tomb. Even if you're alone in it, there's no spooky feeling at all. It's more of a small art gallery than a tomb. The excavations found evidence that the tomb had been sealed in antiquity with mudbrick and plaster over the gate before chamber E, proof that the burial chamber had been used in antiquity. There is no doubt that the ultimate occupant of the tomb was Ay.But for whom it was originally built, the jury is still out. Although Tutankhamun's sarcophagus is better preserved, from the point of view of relief design, Ay's sarcophagus is better. It is one of the most beautiful surviving sarcophagi from the 18th Dynasty. The scene of the goddesses spreading their wings to guard the dead is a masterpiece of the pinnacle of ancient Egyptian sacred aesthetics. It was as if the goddesses carefully guarded Osiris, who had been resurrected and was about to wake up. It conveys an indescribable tranquility and serenity to the audience. Thanks for watching!
