Nestled between two sand beaches and 1000 acres of tropical dry forest mountainside nature reserve, Las Catalinas is a walkable, car-free town with 40 kilometers of world-class hiking and mountain biking trails, six restaurants, a variety of shops, and a full schedule of fun events, large and small. Everything you need for a great vacation is within a short walk through a town of extraordinary beauty. This makes for an experience that is lively and sociable, in touch with nature, and radically different than anything else you will find in the country. As Town continues to grow more lively and more interesting, with the next phase, “The Prado,” on the way as well as new homes, shops, and restaurants, these many factors combine to offer a better way to live in the province of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. One that is healthier and happier, better for people, and better for mother earth. Being a great place to walk is a key ingredient of this better way to live. This makes Las Catalinas a great place for children, a place where they can enjoy freedom. It also makes for an easy natural sociability. There are lots of things to do in Las Catalinas. Here you are surrounded by beauty, both natural and manmade. Nature surrounds you both on land and at sea. These are some of the ingredients that contribute to the better way of living that we are creating. Now let me take a moment to describe Las Catalinas to you. Las Catalinas is, in my unbiased opinion, the most beautiful and desirable 1200 acres in Costa Rica. We have a great location, close to everything, but just isolated enough on the unspoiled Zapotal Peninsula. Las Catalinas has perfect topography. The town site is basically a big bowl facing the ocean. There are fantastic views from everywhere. We have great beaches. They are perfect for swimming, often ideal for body surfing, with great snorkeling and great conditions for sailing, paddle boarding, and kayaking. On a small part of this land we are building a town. It’s a resort town in that its economy is based on resort activities, but it is also a real town with a mix of full-time residents, vacation home owners, and visitors. The buildings, each individually crafted, take seriously their job of beautifying the streets and public spaces that they frame. In my opinion, the power and importance of beauty in a place is profound, and underrated. Las Catalinas is a marvelous place for walking, visiting, and exploring. It’s a place for people, optimized for people.
