Custom Galaxy Liquid Wrap on a Lexus RCF

Our most complex and best project to date. This customer wanted a subtle and classy Galaxy style Liquid Wrap. She originally had a Galaxy Vinyl Wrap on her Lexus RC-F but thought it was a little too busy and did not like how the panels didn't line up. She said if her current wrap was a 9/10 she was looking for about a 6/10 in terms of how busy it was. As always, the car gets a good scrub with dish soap and water to remove any dirt, grease, etc. Luckily she pulled the old vinyl off before bringing it in so we could skip that step. We let the car dry over night to ensure all water has evaporated. This car was fairly easy to mask. I don't know if I was just in the zone or if the body shape and panels made it easy but I felt like it flew by. We used some trim tape for the windshield gasket just to create a bigger gap and prevent the paint from bridging (connecting across gaps or panels). The rest of the car was masked up using solvent proof paper, tape, and some Plaz Mask. For this custom Galaxy theme we want a pitch black night sky as our back drop so I laid down about 2 gallons of black base coat first. For this I'm using a Black Widow HVLP with 1.7mm tip. Then I grab some un-tinted basecoat and mix in some 3D Reflective Flake. These will act as stars against our night sky. For this I switch guns to a 2.5mm tip so no flakes get caught in the gun while spraying. Now comes the fun part. The Pearls. I tried a couple different application methods on some test panels. Air gun, throwing, blowing, straw, stencils, etc. I found that throwing a little bit at the panel and gently blowing some out of my hand gave the best results. I used a mix of different pearls from solid colors like pink, purple, green, blue, yellow, and red to color shifting pearls and even some megashift flakes. After I was happy with the amount of pearls on the car I sealed it all in with 2 coats of gloss from a 1.3mm tip. Obviously adding the pearls and flakes created texture so I anticipated sanding the gloss down the next day and re clearing for a smoother finish. I did end up, however, adding a bit more pearl on to the car before the final coat of gloss. I sanded the car with 800 grit, a DA sander, and a foam pad. I use a mixture of water and dish soap to lubricate the sand paper and prevent burning through the gloss. After it was nice and smooth, I wiped the car down and put one last coat of gloss on it then let it dry for about 4 hours. I was expecting a cool looking car but man was I surprised at how awesome this project turned out. If I could change one thing I would have probably skipped the moon stencil on the driver door just because it felt a little out of place but the rest of the car looks incredible. The customer was happy which is the most important part and we got some great photos of the finished car.
