Whether you’re pairing them together for a hearty breakfast or enjoying them on their own, this combo is a guaranteed hit. Bread and Akara is a popular Nigerian street food combo that can be servedas breakfast , heavy snack or enjoyed individually . ✨ FULL BREAD RECIPE Here’s what you’ll need: • 1 cup warm milk (236 ml) • 1 tbsp sugar (10g) • 2 tsp active dry yeast • 3 cups Bread flour(390g)/ All purpose flour (375g) + extra for kneading • ¼ cup sugar (50g) • 1 tsp salt (5g) • 1 large egg • 1/3 cup melted butter (75g) • 2 tbsp oil (for kneading) Egg wash: • 1 egg • 2 tbsp milk Steps: 1️⃣ Activate yeast by mixing warm milk, 1 tbsp sugar, and yeast. Let it bloom for 10 mins until foamy. 2️⃣ In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Add egg, melted butter, and the yeast mixture. Mix till combined. 3️⃣ Knead on a floured surface for 10 minutes till smooth. Let it rise in an oiled bowl for 1 hour. 4️⃣ Punch down and shape into 2: one loaf and one braided version (as shown in video). 5️⃣ Place into a greased, parchment-lined loaf pan. Let it rise again. 6️⃣ Brush with egg wash and bake at 180°C/350°F for 18–20 mins until golden. ⸻ 🌟 CRUNCHY AKARA RECIPE (Nigerian Bean Cakes) You’ll Need: • 1 cup peeled black-eyed peas or brown beans • 1 small onion • 1 scotch bonnet (or to taste) • Salt to taste • 1/2 a globe red bell pepper • Palm/Vegetable oil for frying(depends on your preference ) Steps: 1️⃣ Soak beans and peel the skin (or use pre-peeled beans). 2️⃣ Blend with onion, pepper, and do not put water. 3️⃣ Stir vigorously for 5–10 mins to aerate the batter (for extra fluffiness). 4️⃣ Add salt and mix well. 5️⃣ Heat oil and fry spoonfuls of batter on medium heat until golden brown and crunchy. ⸻ 🎥 Whether you’re craving fluffy agege bread or hot, crispy Akara this video has you covered.
