Magnesium is one of the macro-nutrients but more specifically a secondary nutrient. Magnesium deficiency mostly shows on older leaves and is depicted by the presence of yellow spots between the leaf veins. Such kind of yellowing between the leaf veins is called INTERVENAL CHLOROSIS. Highly Chlorotic areas become blackish in colour since the cells on those parts of the leaves die. Unlike Magnesium, Manganese is a micro-nutrient. Manganese deficiency also shows on older leaves. Manganese Deficiency is also depicted by Intervenal Chlorosis. What distinguishes Manganese from Magnesium deficiency are two things: a) Presence of Long Intervenal holes in the chlorotic parts of the leaves b) Leaves also have a grey metallic sheen and dark freckles in necrotic areas.
