Two:23 is a network of Christians, connected by LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) issues, who have discovered that God loves us just as we are. You can find out more about Two:23 at www.two23.net Rev Kate Harford was our speaker at our May 2022 meeting, on the topic of: ** What is so toxic about positivity? ** Christians are taught to trust God with our worries and keep our minds on higher things. Why worry, after all, when God who clothes the lilies and keeps Their eye on the sparrow is on our side? We are encouraged that the news we have is Good News, and that we can bring people to Jesus by explaining that through Him, God offers true happiness, wellbeing, and healing. Testimonies of illness, grief, and pain are often wrapped up neatly with a happy ending in which the subject of the story finds recovery. What happens when it goes wrong? How do we ensure that our faith is built on the rock of hope in God rather than the sand of promises of happiness, fulfillment and positivity? Reflecting on insights from disability theology and liberation theology, and grounded in Scripture, we will look at the promises God has made to us as Their people and how they are shown and fulfilled even through illness, disability, and struggle. We will reflect on what we need from God and our communities in times of difficulty, and how to support friends, family and community through hard times.
