In recent years, creative modern Chinese musicians have been trying to break traditional classical music boundaries by incorporating the performing techniques of pop and contemporary music, and by introducing new compositions with a fusion of international music. This video presents musical works by three modern performers, including Jiang Yan on the Pipa, Elsa Huang on the Chinese Hammered Dulcimer, and Man-Hsuan Hsu on the Guzheng, as well as a new-fashioned composer, Lin Hai. Overturning the public’s stereotype of Chinese music, the new exquisite arrangement includes Western instruments (i.e. piano, bass, oboe, percussion, etc.), Eastern instruments (i.e. flute, Xiao/vertical flute, Zhong Ruan/alto lute, etc.), and vocal accompaniment.
