A verb represents actions in Arabic grammar—describing what someone does, did, or will do. It is one of the three main types of words in the Arabic language, alongside nouns (ism) and particles (ḥarf). Every verb carries three core aspects: the action itself, the doer of the action, and the time it happens. For example, kataba (he wrote), ya‘lamu (he knows), and ya‘budūn (they worship) each express a distinct action linked to time. In the Qur’an, verbs form the dynamic structure of divine messages, narrating events, commands, and promises from Allah.
