Did you know that brain fog can be a coping mechanism for your brain? When a child or adult has endured circumstances that are too terrible to recall without the body shutting down or if that person is currently living in a situation too horrible to process accurately, the brain is designed to release cortisol to prompt that person to fight or flight. Now if that person is a child or an adult incapable of escaping the situation then cortisol causes the cortex part of the brain - the part responsible for logical processing - to shut down. Next, the brain releases opioids which allow the brain to dissociate, to become foggy and to escape into its own world in a sense so the person no longer feels fully present. #brainfog #complextrauma #mentalhealthrecovery #healingjourney #cptsd #childhoodtrauma --- DISCLAIMER: Tim Fletcher is not a doctor or licensed therapist; he is a counsellor in Canada and has worked with people with Complex Trauma and Addiction for decades.
