Amateur and youth games are frequently left without full crews because the current flat-rate game fees are too low to meet the high demand for officials. In this video, we examine a proposal to use dynamic pricing (like surge pricing) to solve the problem: We explore why flexible pricing could encourage more referees to work during peak demand hours. We discuss creating a referee marketplace where officials could set their own fees based on their certified level and experience. This allows clubs to budget and pay more for top officials. We ask if clubs should be required to certify staff to ensure all games have coverage. We need practical changes to increase the number of officials on the pitch.
