''The House Of Eliott'' & 1920's Fashion. The ''1920's Fashion'' book by Charlotte Fiell and Emmanuelle Dirix, has 512 pages and contains 500 original photographs, drawings, and prints from the 1920's. The book was first published in 2011 in England. My copy was published in 2015. The ''Art Deco'' era originated in France around 1912, but that classification was barely used back then. The term ''art deco'' referring to the style that emerged during the inter-war period didn't become commonplace until the 1960's. In the 1920's, some women's clothing was made of ''artificial silk''. This was derived from cellulose , and was known as ''Rayon'' in the United States. In fact, material made from cellulose was actually 'semi-artificial', because it wasn't until the 1940's that material made from petroleum (such as Nylon) became available. It should be noted that in the 1920's, a woman's outfit depended on the time of day such as morning, afternoon, or evening wear, and also the time of year. Besides summer and winter outfits, there were also different outfits for Autumn and Spring. That resulted in women who were financially well off having extraordinarily large wardrobes !
