Multi-award-winning actor, Catherine McClements, presents the Sisters in Crime 28th Scarlet Stiletto Awards for best crime and mystery short stories, written by Australian women, in collaboration with crime fiction aficionado, Sue Turnbull. This year, 241 short stories – equal to last year’s record – have competed for $11,910 in prize money … the payoff goes up each year. Twenty-six stories by 23 authors are shortlisted. Each author receives a framed certificate and 16 prizes are awarded. The winner of the 1st Prize also receives a spectacular trophy – a scarlet stiletto shoe with a steel heel plunging into a perspex mount. In a special online ceremony, Catherine McClements will announce the winners of these prestigious awards after talking to Sue Turnbull about her life in crime. On screen will be all available shortlisted authors, Professor Christina Lee, who will present the judges’ report, and Dr Carolyn Beasley from Swinburne University, the 1st Prize sponsor. All participants were invited to wear scarlet – or at least a splash. Sponsored by Swinburne University of Technology, Department of Media and Communications. © Sisters in Crime Australia, 2021
