The Lower Gate is known as the Urwai Gate and forms part of outer Defence work contructed by Iltutmish in 13th century. In between these two gates there are many colossal Jain Sculptures carved along both the Rock faces of the valley which are unique in respect of their number & size. These sculptures represent the figures of some of 24 Jain Tirthankaras, either in standing or in seated postures, the largest among these images is a standing figure of Adinath (57 FT.) carved on the right side about Half way up of the Urwai Valley. These sculptures were carved during the Regime of Tomar King Dungar Singh in 15th century as many of them contain dated inscriptions, Similar images have also been carved out in south-west, north-west, north-east & south-eastern part, in the steep cliff, below the Fortress wall. #madhyapradesh #gwalior #mptourism #historical #india #incredibleindia #vlog
