Saving cute baby elephant fallen in to an abandoned well and given a new home

Baby elephants are super cute. Period. Sadly, one such adorable elephant fell into a dry well. The helpless animal struggled a lot to come out of the pit, but it in vain. A herd of elephants has visited the village last night. This tiny fellow is believed to be missed its herd and fell in to this uncovered well at night. Villagers woke with the sharp noise of baby elephant who was frantically trying to make its way out of the well. The nearby villagers gathered around and one of them has informed the nearest center of department of wildlife conservation regarding the distressed elephant. After a point it seemed completely impossible for the little fella to make its way up. Tiny fellow is struggling continuously inside the well. When a villager touched its trunk he showed an anguish reaction. Thankfully, people from the forest department finally reached the site and helped it out. They rescued the baby elephant by lifting him with a strong rope loop. Tiny elephant seemed exhausted with the unexpected ordeal he had to encounter with. Now they are bringing the baby to the nearest forest range office to clean and comfort the elephant. They attempt to reintegrate the elephant with its herd. There’s a belief among the villagers that elephants are being rejected from the herd when there’s smell of human remaining in their body. As the elephant was closely interacted with the people they wet coir dust in the baby elephant’s body and washed the body to remove the smell of human. They were keeping the elephant in forest border for a week in the hope that the passing herd would take him. Sadly this lone little baby remained abandoned throughout that time, despite many elephant herds wandering through that area. The elephant was at serious risk to predation without the protection of a herd, and in need of milk. The tiny baby began to suckle the Keeper’s fingers and looked forward for milk. They brought bottled milk to feed the elephant and the hungry fellow eagerly suckled the milk given to him. The officials decided to bring the elephant to the nearest elephant transit home and look after him until the maturity. Then after release back to the forest when he get the ability to survive in the forest. The baby elephant was brought to elephant transit home Udawalawa. At this elephant transit home, orphaned elephant calves are taken care of until they are independent enough to be released back to the wild. The staff is dedicated to look after the orphaned calves. It was happy to see that he’s adjusted incredibly well in to the new home. We are thrilled with his progress and he has now settled into the Nursery routine and is very much a part of all the activities.
