We’re taking the BMW iX1 on a massive cross-state road trip from Noida to Patna! This isn't your typical "eco-run"—we had 4 adults on board, a trunk packed to the brim with luggage, and we didn't hold back on the speed. The High-Speed Challenge: We tackled the Yamuna Expressway at 100-110 km/h and pushed the Agra-Lucknow Expressway at a sustained 120 km/h. Driving at these speeds with a full load (approx. 370kg extra weight) is the ultimate test for an EV's aerodynamics and battery management. Trip Analytics (Leg 1: Noida to Saifai/ Mainpuri): • Distance: 302.9 km • Battery Consumed: 82% (Started at 100%, Arrived at 18%) • Energy Efficiency: ~18 KWh/km (5.56 km/kWh) • Charging Cost: ₹530.83 (at ₹9.74/kWh) • Running Cost: Just ₹1.75 per km! Charging Strategy & The 80% Rule: We charged at the Adani 240kW CCS2 station in Saifai, however, the charger maxed out at 60KW. As per me, the primary culprit was the quality of power supply. Otherwise, at all other urban stations, the charging speed was as per the charging station rating. PRO Tip: The other important lesson was in the "Charging Curve." Went up to charge till 96%, spend considerable amount of time charging from 80% to 96%. In most EVs, including the iX1, the charging speed drops significantly after 80% to protect the battery. To save time on a long trip, it’s almost always faster to unplug at 80% and hit the road rather than waiting for those last few percentages! Learnt it hard way! 😀 The "Google Maps Fail": Be careful! Google Maps gave us the wrong location for the charger shortly after entering the expressway.
