How do new ideas emerge in evaluation, and what responsibilities do evaluators carry in times of social and political change? In this TEI webinar, Professor Emeritus Ernest House reflects on themes from his recent article, Creating New Ideas in Evaluation, drawing on more than six decades of scholarship and practice. In conversation with TEI Executive Director Dr. Stewart I. Donaldson, Dr. House explores how creativity in evaluation often comes from engaging ideas beyond the discipline (philosophy, economics, and literature) and adapting them thoughtfully to new contexts. The discussion addresses the challenges of advancing innovative ideas, the importance of intellectual courage, and the evolving role of evaluators in maintaining integrity, trust, and accountability in uncertain times. Dr. House also reflects on the responsibilities of evaluators as “moral fiduciaries,” emphasizing honesty, cognitive empathy, and principled practice as essential foundations of the field. This session offers valuable insights for both emerging and experienced evaluators seeking to strengthen their practice and contribute meaningfully to the future of evaluation. 🔎 Learn more about TEI’s professional development courses: https://tei.cgu.edu/upcoming-programs/ #Evaluation #ErnestHouse #EvaluationTheory #ProgramEvaluation #EvaluationLeadership #TEIWebinar #ProfessionalDevelopment #CreativeThinking #EvaluationPractice #EthicsInEvaluation #TheEvaluatorsInstitute
