The Kaga was a mass of flames... it was a sight beyond description." — Commander Mitsuo Fuchida, CAG, Kido Butai (First Air Fleet) Following the events of Part 5, we witness the total strategic neutralisation of the 1st Carrier Division. While our SBDs deliver a terminal "Hammer" blow to the Kaga, Nagumo responds with a final, desperate roll of the dice: sending a raid of 20 or so unescorted strike planes. This was likely due to the interception of the Midway raid a few hours earlier; despite no confirmed kills at the time, the lack of air cover during recent strikes is indicative of at least disrupting them long enough to expend whatever fuel reserves they had left and ditch into the Pacific. Utilising our multi-layered CAP (12,000ft and 8,000ft), we intercepted the threat at the radar fringe. I scrambled the Enterprise and Hornet squadrons to reinforce, but the standing CAP was so predatory they had already splashed more than half the bandits before the "cavalry" arrived. Our pilots clearly had something to prove; the interception was so thorough that not a single IJN aircraft survived to even sight our AAA range. Forensic Identification: Target: Kaga Identifiers: Starboard-side island, massive red Hinomaru on the bow, and the 「カ」 (Ka) katakana marking at the stern.
