I Lived in a Village for Community Immersion | Here’s What I Learned | Gandhi Fellowship 2025

As a Gandhi Fellow, community immersion is one of the most important parts of our journey. For an entire month, every fellow lives in a village—not as a visitor, but as a member of the community. In this video, I’m sharing my community immersion experience, where I stayed with a host family and lived life just like them. I ate the food they eat, followed their daily routine, worked alongside them, and slowly became a part of their everyday life. My days were spent in the village school, interacting with students, conducting activities, and learning directly from the classroom experience. Beyond school, I engaged with the village community, met parents, interacted with Panchayat members, and tried to understand how Panchayati Raj institutions function at the grassroots level. This immersion helped me understand the ground realities of rural India, the challenges people face, and the strengths that hold the community together. More than anything, it taught me lessons of empathy, simplicity, resilience, and collective responsibility—lessons no textbook can offer.
